I recently partnered with Pro Bar to sample a mix pack of their protein bars and Bolt Energy Chews. When the box arrived I was so excited! With the Eugene Half Marathon less than a month away, I need serious nutrition to get me through and Pro Bar came through.
My husband is fairly picky when it comes to food. So you know it’s a good sign when something I have received for a blog review goes mysteriously missing. Yep, he grabbed a Pro Bar or two before I even had a chance to try them! Sneaky. However, that in itself should count as a glowing review. He loved them. Picky eater approved!!
What was in the box?
I opted to try the Ultimate 15 Pack. I was able to try three different flavors each of PROBAR Bite, PROBAR Meal, PROBAR Fuel, PROBAR Bolt and PROBAR Base. I was impressed with all of the different products. My favorites had to be the PROBAR Meal Chocolate Coconut Flavor and the Bolt Energy Chews for during my runs. I have already ordered more because I am in runner fuel heaven when having them.
What made each PRO BAR great
PROBAR Meal – This is the original PRO Bar. It’s great for long runs or long hikes because it packs a lot of flavor, nutrients and calories. It’s also perfect for a day at Disney World, as we discovered at our recent trip to Florida. You need energy to go all day in the Magical Kingdom 🙂 With 9 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber and packing 370 calories, these bars can be used more to replace a meal or as an extra energy boost when you need it most during hard, long 2 hour+ workouts or runs.
PROBAR Bolt – When I’m on a long run I need quick energy that won’t weight me down. I am not a fan of gels, they are too sweet and I just can’t get past the texture. I do like gummies and these were the best I have had. They don’t leave a weird aftertaste like some other brands I have tried. These are more natural. I tried flavors both with and without caffeine and for me they gave similar energy. But keep in mind, caffeine doesn’t affect me much.
These are packed with electrolytes, B-vitamins and carbohydrates to keep you going strong during training or when sprinting to the finish! Strawberry was my favorite flavor, but I will use them all in my training.
PROBAR Bite – I am a personal trainer at the gym and often have clients back to back. I sometimes need a quick energy boost and the PROBAR Bites were the perfect compliment to my day. I especially like that they are infused with greens and contain 6 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber. These keep me going strong! With less calories than the PROBAR Meal bars, they are the perfect snack.
PROBAR Fuel – This bar is lower in calories than others. I love anything Strawberry, so naturally I tried this one first. It was juicy, flavorful and perfect pre-workout. I kind of picture it somewhere between a fruit leather and an energy bar. It has a lot of pureed fruit, but also nuts and 3 grams of protein. It was only 160 calories, so great pre-run energy. I also loved that it was packed with chia seeds and for all my gluten intolerant friends, this little bar is gluten-free!
PROBAR Base – The PROBAR Base is packed with 20 grams of plant based protein. As a vegetarian this is really important to me. Most bars infused with vegan proteins taste chalky and leave a bad taste in your mouth for hours. These did neither. They tasted great and I definitely will be going back for more. If I need a pick-me-up midday this protein packed bar does the trick every time.
