I recently discovered Buff products. No, these aren’t products to make you stronger and give you huge biceps. These Buffs are circular pieces of fabric (much like a neck warmer) made in Santa Rosa, California (not far from where I live) as outdoor headwear. They have many adventure uses and today I am sharing my favorite race uses.
Buff makes headwear that is functional and easily washable. It also can be worn as a headband, a wristband, or other head covering. See more ways on the Buff USA website.
Personally, I either wear mine as a head covering, ear warmer, or on my wrist to wipe the sweat from my face as needed.
I also tend to burn fairly easily, the Buff blocks 95% of harmful UV rays and I can use it to protect my head, neck and face from the elements. The sun, wind and even rain are all blocked when I’m wearing my buff. It’s especially useful on all-day hikes. I wish I had had one when I was in New Zealand!
Why wear a Buff at a race?
Warmth. Races start early for runners and often I am freezing at the start line. Last weekend at Bay to Breakers I was a little cold at the start, but my Buff, wrapped around my neck, kept me warm. It’s easy to wear when needed or pack away when no longer necessary.
Protection from the elements. I’ve been battling a bad cold and flu the last two weeks and having the Buff around my neck helped me breathe better. I was able to bring the Buff up around my face and over my mouth when the air was too cold to breathe on it’s own. It also protects from the sun.
Sweat wicking. Use that Buff to wipe off the sweat! Either wear it as a sweat wicking headband or wrap it around your wrist, like a tennis player would have a wristband, and use it to wipe your sweat when needed.
There is a Buff for you!
Made of polyester or wool, there is a Buff for every season and every element. They also come in a lot of bright colors and patterns to match everything you own.
I own two Buffs right now and will most likely collect a few more soon. They are comfortable and functional. Check them out today for all your adventure headwear needs!
